Therefore What?

If you skipped over the inventory or only did a partial effort, this is your friendly
reminder to take care of whatever you need to in order to get that done!  If you
didn’t do it because  you think it won’t make a difference, I invite you to put it
to the test. If you skipped out because of fear or some obstacle, “have ye
inquired of the Lord” (1 Nephi 15:8)?  Although I don’t know your fears or
concerns, God does!

He needs you to take this brave step, so He will show you how to do it for yourself.
This will take time. It may take days, weeks, months, or even years to take this step.

However long it takes to accomplish this is just fine.  Again, it won’t be perfect. Just
get it good enough. You decide if you want to put this book down until it’s finished or
keep reading while you work on the inventory, but I cannot overemphasize the
importance  of starting (and finishing) this inventory!

There are two resources you may want to check out for writing the inventory.  The
first is step 4 of the LDS ARP manual (HERE).  I also really like the step 4 in the
Healing Through  Christ manual (HERE).  I believe both can be used regardless
of being an addict or not, or supporting a loved one with addiction or not.  Any
person would benefit from looking at these manuals in general, but also the
suggestions in writing an inventory.

There are two talks that may be helpful if you want to dive a bit deeper into the
importance  of belief and believing:

  1. “Choose to Believe,” by Elder L. Whitney Clayton (HERE).  I think this talk goes
hand-in-hand with the important combination of belief and agency.
  2. “Lord, I Believe,” by Elder Jeffrey R. Holland (HERE). He talks about what we can
do if we  don’t feel like we can believe adequately yet. Plus, it’s Elder Holland, so
you know it will be  worth your time to go check out!

***UPDATE*** I was recently sent this amazing BYU Devotional talk that I feel is a wonderful recap and expansion of Chapter 6. Consider listening, watching, or reading it to reinforce the things we discovered together.
